Series of Self-Portraits
During walks around the Kitay-Gorod area, I capture scenes that are somehow connected to specific places on Ivanovskaya Hill. These scenes involve people with a specific and recognizable role at the moment — a church parishioner, a tour guide, a student, a graffiti artist, an office worker, a flâneur. Through observation, I discover the “roles” of the theater of life unfolding before our eyes in time and space. I wanted to recreate these scenes, but with my own participation. By taking static self-portraits, I thus conduct a study of the place by immersing myself in the context, mimicking the place, and capturing an exact image.
The project was carried out as part of the research laboratory based at the GROUND Solyanka Museum of Contemporary Art. Curator: Alexandra Panteleeva
